History of Chennai Cathedral Charitable Trust
Chennai Cathedral Charitable Trust is a unit of 46 years old "Lions Club of Madras Cathedral". The Trust was registered on 9th June 2011 for the purpose of serving our Society as per the objectives mentioned in this website. The Lions Club of Madras Cathedral was inaugurated on 28th Feb. 1978.
The Chartered President of Lions Club of Madras Cathedral was Late Ln G.Narayanaswamy, a leading practicing Chartered Accountant of M/s S. Venkataram & Co., Chartered Accountants.
The Charter Member is MJF Ln S Christe Raajan, Managing Director, M/s. Deepa Travels (Madras) Private Limited. The above said Charter Member is active in all the activities of the Club particularly in serving to the Humanity.
Ln S Christe Raajan founded this Chennai Cathedral Charitable Trust along with other service minded Lions formed this trust and presently there are 9 permanent Trustees in the Board of Trustees who are managing the activities of this Trust. Ln S Christe Raajan relinquished his position of Managing Trusteeship of the Chennai Cathedral Charitable Trust at the meeting of the Board of Trustees held on 5th March 2025.
Ln S Nagarajan has been appointed as the Managing Trustee of the Chennai Cathedral Charitable Trust with effect from 5th March 2025 for a term of 5 years.
Ln P M Sounderrajan, Trustee has been appointed as the Joint Managing Trustee of the Chennai Cathedral Charitable Trust with effect from 5th March 2025.
The President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Lions Club of Madras Cathedral will act as Ex-Officio Trustees of the Board of Trustees during their tenure.
In total 9 permanent Trustees & 3 Ex-Officio Trustees are managing the Chennai Cathedral Charitable Trust.
History of the Lions Club of Madras Cathedral
The Lions Club of Madras Cathedral was inaugurated on 28th February, 1978 and Chartered on 30th September, 1978 and successfully completed 46 years of useful years of its existence.
The Chartered President was Late Ln G.Narayanaswamy, a leading practicing Chartered Accountant of M/s S. Venkataram & Co., Chartered Accountants. The Charter Member is MJF Ln S Christe Raajan - Managing Director, M/s. Deepa Travels (Madras) Private Limited.
Our club is unique from other clubs in many respects. Our Club consists of multi-various professionals such as Advocates, Architects, Builders, Technocrats, Professionals in various fields, Businessmen etc as its members and they used to participate in the Club meetings with their Lion Ladies and Cubs.
Periodically, we used to organize speaker meetings and they will address on various subjects.
CATHEDRAL EXCELLENCE AWARD
Lions Club of Madras Cathedral instituted 'Cathedral Excellence Award' in the Lionistic year 1996-97 when MJF Ln T N Manoharan, Chartered Accountant was the President of our Club. Subsequently, it became an Annual feature of our Club.
OBJECT OF THIS AWARD
Lions Club of Madras Cathedral would like to honour eminent and noble personalities in various fields in recognition of their services rendered by them to the society at large. The main intention of the award is to respect the human beings who give importance to the values in life.
SELECTION PROCESS
Every year Lions Club of Madras Cathedral constitutes a Committee viz.'Cathedral Excellence Award Committee' to identify various personalities in different fields and recommend their names to the Board of our Club to finalize the Awardees.
